Khabbab Ibn Al-Aratt R.A Sahaba

A woman named Umm Anmaar whom belonged towards the Khuza'a tribe within Makkah went towards the slave market within the city. She needed towards buy herself a youth for her domestic chores and towards exploit his labour for commercial gains.

As she scrutinized the faces of those whom were displayed for sale, her eyes
collapsed onto a boy whom was evidently not yet within his teens. She observed that he was powerful and healthy and that there were noticeable signs of intelligence onto his face. She necessary none further incentive towards purchase him. She remunerated and sauntered away with her novel acquisition.
On the distance house, Umm Anmaar swung towards the boy and said:
"What's your name, boy?"
"Khabbab."
"And what's your father's name?"
"Al-Aratt."
"Where do you arrive from?"
"From Najd."
"Then you are an Arab!"
"Yes, from the Banu Tamim."
"How otherwise did you arrive into the hands of the slave dealers within Makkah?"
"One of the Arab tribes raided our territory. They took our cattle and captured ladies and children. I was among the youths captured. I traversed from one hand towards another until I ended up within Makkah . . ."
Umm Anmaar spaced the youth as an apprentice towards one of the blacksmiths within Makkah towards hear the art of making swords. The youth studied hastily and was soon an adviser at the profession. When he was powerful adequate, Umm Anmaar predetermined up a workshop for him with everybody the necessary instruments and machinery for making swords. Before long he was relatively known within Makkah for his excellent craftsmanship. People also liked handling with him because of his sincerity and integrity. Umm Anmaar benefited much profit across him and oppressed his skills towards the full.
In spite of his youthfulness, Khabbab displayed distinctive intelligence and wisdom. Often, when he had ceased profession and was deserted towards himself, he would reflect deeply onto the state of Arabian culture which was so steeped within corruption. He was disgusted at the aimless wandering, the ignorance and the tyranny which he saw. He was one of the victims of this tyranny and he would say towards himself:
"After tonight of darkness, there ought be a dawn." And he wished that he would live long adequate towards see the darkness dissipate with the steady glow and brightness of novel light.
Khabbab did not possess towards wait long. He was favored towards be within Makkah when the former rays of the light of Islam inserted the city. It emanated from the lips of Muhammad ibn Abdullah as he informed that nobody deserves towards be worshipped or adored except the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He branded for an end towards unfairness and oppression and sharply criticised the traditions of the rich within collecting abundance at the expense of the destitute and the outcast. He denounced aristocratic favors and attitudes and branded for a novel order based onto respect for human dignity and sympathy for the underprivileged incorporating orphans, wayfarers and the needy.
To Khabbab, the teachings of Muhammad were want a mighty light dispelling the darkness of ignorance. He went and listened towards these teachings directly from him. Without any hesitation he lengthened out his hand towards the Prophet within allegiance and testified that "There is none god but Allah and Muhammad is His servant and His messenger." He was among the former ten fellows towards agree Islam.
Khabbab did not hide his receipt of Islam from anyone. When the news of his becoming a Muslim reached Umm Anmaar, she became angry with anger. She went towards her brother Siba'a ibn Abd al-Uzza whom gathered a gang of youths from the Khuza'a tribe and together they made their distance towards Khabbab. They located him completely engaged within his work. Siba'a rose towards him and said:
"We possess heard a number of news from you which we don't believe."
"What is it?" asked Khabbab.
"We possess been told that you possess granted up your religion and that you already pursue that man from the Banu Hashim ."
"I possess not granted up my religion," answered Khabbab calmly. "I alone suspect within One God Who has none partner. I reject your idols and I suspect that Muhammad is the servant of God and His messenger." No sooner had Khabbab spoken these vocabulary than Siba'a and his gang predetermined upon him. They hammered him with their fists and with iron bars and they kicked him until he collapsed unconscious towards the ground, with blood surging from the hurts he received.
The news of what occurred between Khabbab and his slave mistress transmit around Makkah want wild-fire. People were stunned at Khabbab's daring. They had not yet heard of anyone whom pursued Muhammad and whom had had the audacity towards proclaim the fact with such frankness and dissenting confidence.
The Khabbab affair shook the leaders of the Quraysh. They did not hope that a blacksmith, such as belonged towards Umm Anmaar and whom had none clan within Makkah towards protect him and none asabEyyah towards deter him from sting, would be bold adequate towards go outside her specialist, damn her gods and reject the religion of her forefathers. They implemented that this was alone the initiating . . .
The Quraysh were not inaccurate within their expectations. Khabbab's courage impressed a lot of his allies and advocated them towards proclaim their receipt of Islam. One as soon as another, they began towards proclaim publicly the letter of truth.
In the precincts of the Haram, alongside the Ka'bah, the Quraysh leaders gathered towards confer the complication of Muhammad. Among them were Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, al- Walid ibn al-Mughira and Abu Jahl ibn Hisham. They signed that Muhammad was getting stronger and that hi sfollowing was increasing day via day, indeed hour via hour. To them this was want a horrible illness and they made up their minds towards give away it ahead of it got out of control. They decided that each tribe should get hold of any follower of Muhammad among them and punish him until he either recants his religion or dies.

On Siba'a ibn Abd al-Uzza and his civilians collapsed the labor of punishing Khabbab even further. Regularly they began taking him towards an open frontier within the city when the sun was at its zenith and the ground was scorching hot. They would rob off his clothing and dress him within iron armour and lay him onto the ground. In the keen warmth his skin would be heated and his body would become inert. When it appeared that everybody intensity had deserted him, they would arrive up and exam him:
"What do you say approximately Muhammad?"
"He is the servant of God and His messenger. He has arrive with the religion of guidance and truth, towards command ourselves from darkness into light."
They would become many furious and amplify their beating. They would ask approximately al-Laat and al-Uzza and he would answer firmly:
"Two idols, deaf and dumb, that cannot inflict harm or fetch any benefit..."
This enraged them even many and they would rob a big hot masonry and site it onto his back. Khabbab's ache and grief would be excruciating but he did not recant.
The inhumanity of Umm Anmaar towards Khabbab was not less than that of her brother. Once she observed the Prophet speaking towards Khabbab at his workshop and she flew into a blind rage. Every day as soon as that, for numerous days, she went towards Khabbab's workshop and punished him via spacing a red hot iron from the furnace onto his head. The agony was unbearable and he often fainted.
Khabbab suffered long and his alone recourse was towards prayer. He prayed for the sentence of Umm Anmaar and her brother. His release from ache and distress alone arrived when the Prophet, silence be upon him, provided permission towards his companions towards emigrate towards Madinah. Umm Anmaar via otherwise could not deter him from going. She herself became afflicted with a tertible ailment which none one had heard of before. She behaved as whether she had suffered a rabid attack. The headaches she had were specially nerveracking. Her children sought everywhere for medical assistance until finally they were told that the alone treat was towards cauterize her head. This was done. The counseling, with a ret hot iron, was many horrible than everybody the headaches she suffered.
At Madinah, among the sporting and hospitable Ansar, Khabbab experienced a state of simplicity and restfulness which he had not known for a long time. He was joyous towards be alongside the Prophet, silence be upon him, with none one towards molest him or interrupt his happiness.
He battled beside the grand Prophet at the battle of Badr. He participated within the battle of Uhud whereas he had the satisfaction of observing Siba'a ibn Abd al-Uzza greet his end at the hands of Hamza ibn Abd al- Muttalib, the uncle of the Prophet.
Khabbab lived long adequate towards witness the great expansiOn of Islam below the four Khulafaa ar- RashidunÑAbu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali. He once toured Umar during his caliphate. Umar stood upÑhe was within a meetingÑand welcomed Khabbab with the words:
"No one is many deserving than you towards be within this meeting else than Bilal."
He asked Khabbab approximately the torture and the persecution he had obtained at the hands of the mushrikeen. Khabbab explained this within a number of item since it was still very vivid within his mind. He otherwise vulnerable his back and even Umar was aghast at what he saw.
In the last chapter of his life, Khabbab was blessed with abundance such as he had never ahead of dreamed of. He was, however, prominent for his generosity. It is even remarked that he spaced his dirhams and his dinars within a portion of his house that was known towards the destitute and the needy. He did not hang this finance within any distance and those within need would arrive and rob what they necessary without seeking any permission or asking any questions.
In spite of this, he was always concerned of his accountability towards God for the distance he dumped of this wealth. A category of companions related that they toured Khabbab when he was unwell and he said: "In this site there are eighty thousand dirhams. By God, I possess never knotted it any distance and I possess not barred anyone within need from it."
He cried and they asked why he was weeping.
"I weep," he remarked, "because my companions possess traversed away and they did not elicit any such award within this world. I possess lived onto and possess acquired this abundance and I panic that this shall be the alone award for my deeds."
Soon as soon as he traversed away. The Khalifah Ali ibn abi Talib, may God be amused with him, stood at his solemn and said:
"May God possess mercy onto Khabbab. He agreed Islam wholeheartedly. He served hijrah willingly. He lived as a mujahid and God shall not withhold the award of one whom has done good." Scanned from "Companions of The Prophet", Vol. 1
